Why are we launching a Kickstarter?

We’re S&J Games, a sister duo building Bad Summer out of our tiny two-bedroom apartment. Between the two of us, we wear a lot of hats: writing, coding, composing music, voice acting, marketing, art direction...you name it. When we’re not paying bills or taking care of our grandmother who has dementia, every bit of our time, money, and energy goes into this game. We don’t spend on ourselves anymore. This is the dream. This is the priority. 

We started small. We thought we’d make something simple. But we don’t know how to think small. We never have. And as Bad Summer grew, so did our team.

Our lead coder is a close friend who volunteers his time to fix our messes and help us build better systems. Our artists are reliable and fast, working with us at rates we can afford because they understand how expensive art can be. Our audio tech? He shows up every time we call, no payment asked. One of our playtesters is a friend in France who not only gives brutally honest feedback (while swearing at half the cast) but even offered to translate the game. And our voice actors are unbelievably talented, and they’ve stuck with us because they believe in what this could be.

This project is built on love, sacrifice, and a community that’s been willing to believe in two sisters chasing something bigger than themselves.

We’ve reached the point where we simply can’t keep going without funding. Bad Summer won’t be finished unless this Kickstarter succeeds. We’ve done everything we can on our own, but now we need your help to go the rest of the way.

This isn’t just about making a game. It’s about honoring the people who’ve stood by us and continuing to deliver something we believe can be unforgettable. Your support will go toward paying our team fairly, completing the full game, and giving this story the ending it deserves.
